Wellbeing Tips for this Festive Period
equipped2succeed Wellbeing tips for the Festive Period
Whether you celebrate Christmas or not, this time of year can be very overwhelming and here at equipped2succeed, we are keen to support those that find this time of year difficult and challenging.
So here are our Wellbeing tips for this Festive Period:
1. Honesty
Try to be honest with the people around you. Are you finding things overwhelming? Don't be afraid to cancel plans if you are not feeling up to them. Sometimes you have to put yourself first.
2. Remember to try and take some time to relax
If you are already somebody who has the tendency to take on too much, the high demands of Christmas can make this even worse. If this is you, press pause and remember you can only do so much.
3. Don't compare your Christmas to others
This Christmas don't compare yourself and your celebrations with the representations of the perfect Christmas moments we see all over social media or on TV adverts. Remember, everyone is only sharing the good bits, social media is a highlight reel and TV adverts are a sales tool, not reality. Christmas is unique to each family and that is what makes it so special.
4. Give yourself a gift
This Christmas give yourself a gift by prioritising some time for yourself. This will be different for each individual, but what is the one thing you want to do this festive season? Is it to go to a Christmas market? Watch a Christmas light switch on? Drink hot chocolate and watch a Christmas movie as a family or with friends? Whatever it is, make sure you take some time out to do what you really want to do, no matter how big or small.
5. Check in on yourself and those around you
If you’re spending Christmas alone, have a think about what you want to do beforehand. You could consider volunteering – it’s no secret that giving something back to others can help you feel good about yourself. You might also want to consider if there is an elderly person nearby who is also alone and maybe you could do something together.
These past couple of years have been difficult for everybody in so many different ways, don’t let all the wonderful celebrations distract you from focusing on your wellbeing because at the end of the day, your health is the greatest gift to yourself and those around you.
If the Christmas period is a hard time for you, it's important to remember that you are not alone. Below is a link to Mind's top tips for coping with this festive period.⬇
